📅 Thought for today:

‘A wise person should have money in their head, but not in their heart.’

— Jonathan Swift

This picture is of my very first “piggybank”.

Clearly, it is not a pig, it is a grasshopper.

I doubt many of my connections remember Martins bank, the grasshopper was their logo.

They were bought by Barclays in 1969.

My father banked at Martins, which had a branch in Fallowfield in south Manchester.

The bank manager gave me this on a visit with my dad sometime around 1965 or 6.

He also put a penny in it, to get me started.

It has been a treasured possession since then and I still keep it out, in sight.

It is full now of odd coins collected along the way, not regular money.

I pulled them out to take a photo, the coins are worn and tarnished, yet still “treasure”.

There are a pair of 1916 1 franc coins, very beautiful, and a 1928 Irish Shilling.

Money is in my heart today.
