I have really liked this quote since I first heard it a few years ago.
I am also aware that many people do not, and in a very unscientific piece of research, I think it offends more English people than any other nationality.
Winfrey was born in Mississippi to a poor family and her early years are littered with trauma.
Her story is often described as the “American Dream” – starting a life with nothing, in adversity and “making it”.
The English way is to be humble about your achievements and to not boast about your achievements (until you become Prime Minister that is).
So I get why some of my friends wrinkle their noses at this quote.
Yesterday I was telling a long-time friend about my push for more creativity in my life, initiated after reading The Artist’s Way. He said to me, “you’ve always been creative, possibly more than you realise.”
He has known me for 35 years and this is the first time I have heard this – it came as a surprise.
Having thought about it overnight, my power is creativity and my passion is helping other people make the changes in their lives that want to make.
I don’t expect success (my version) but I do know in my heart that I am pursuing my own dream and very happy with that.
