📅 Thought for today:

‘Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.’

— Helen Keller

When I was a boy my mother and I watched The Miracle Worker – the 1962 film about the life of Helen Keller. It had a profound impact on me then, and thinking about it today brings back memories of that impact.

Helen Adams Keller was an American author, disability rights advocate, political activist and lecturer. Keller lost her sight and her hearing at 19 months old – in 1882.

She was a remarkable woman and lived to see the swinging 60s, dying at the age of 87.

If you don’t know the story of her activist activities, I recommend reading more about her.

Given what you now know, this quote has an extra poignancy.

And this is me today, heading to Birmingham, starting the day with a visit to the Birmingham Museum & Gallery (which is only partly open) and then having lunch with a friend and a mooch around Birmingham.

I probably should clarify that I mean Birmingham, West Midlands, UK not Birmingham, Alabama (which I last visited in 1987).

The weather is set fair, a face to the sun day.
