Thought for today:

‘We don’t receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.’

— Marcel Proust

I have been re-reading one of the books recommended when I was training as a psychotherapist.

It has been a while and having recommended Love’s Executioner by Irvin Yalom to a friend I thought I would read it again.

A lot has changed even though it is only about 4 years since I read it.

Like the old Greek proverb about a man crossing a river.

The world has changed and so have I.

I might not be any wiser, but I have certainly learned a lot on my journey.

In the last 14 months, I have had around 500 client sessions.

There are always surprises, sadness, joy, and attentive hard work.

So re-reading the book has been interesting.

Because it gives me an opportunity to observe what has changed for me, how my experience has shaped my thoughts.

I am a proponent of reflective practice for everyone, as a way of learning and also as a way of recording our development.

Like lava in Iceland, we seem to be stationary yet we are constantly changing.

This first week has been a good one, I’m looking forward to another just like it.
