Thought for today:
‘We always long for the forbidden things, and desire what is denied us.’
— Francois Rabelais
No, not me.
I’m not thinking about forbidden things today, except in the context of clients.
This came up with a client recently.
The sentence that starts with, “I know I shouldn’t, but…”
And is followed by any one of a number of “forbidden things”.
Also, the desire to “know” why, a feeling of not being quite in control.
Which in turn leads to anxiety and misery.
This is a familiar script in counselling and often leads to misery.
Finding a way back after succumbing to temptation takes time, and probably some support.
Whether that be from a friend, family member or professional helper.
If you know someone in this position, how would you approach them to offer support?
