📅 Thought for today:

‘Headlines, in a way, are what mislead you because bad news is a headline, and gradual improvement is not.’

When did you last read an uplifting headline on a website or newspaper?

Personally, I can’t remember one this year so far.

The newspaper has War Crimes as its headline and the BBC news website has a tax increase, followed by war, the story of a young man seeing his father shot in front of him.

I read on, headlines only… and three levels down I find Ed Sheeran winning a copyright case, which I am not sure is bad news (but presumably was for the claimant) and finally something that feels positive – identical triplets.

Neuroscience has taught us that the things we use our brain for most often become our norm. We effectively strengthen our mental ability in that regard.

If all we read is bad news, our worldview becomes negative.

I am not the first to call for more positive input to young minds, and I am not naïve enough to pretend that bad news, and attendant headlines, are what attract attention.

We are all rubber-neckers to the world’s car crashes.
