📅 Thought for today:
‘You can close your eyes to the things you don’t want to see, but you can’t close your heart to the things you don’t want to feel.’
— Johnny Depp

There is an irony in these words, which I am sure you will understand.
I moved past who said the words and moved to the meaning.
A key part of my work with clients is enabling them to recognise and actually allow their feelings to “be”.
It is tempting with discomfort and painful feelings to try and make them go away. Social media seems to paint a world where other people don’t have these “problems”, so why should you?
Well feelings, in all their rich variety, give us information that we can use, if we let them be and recognise what they mean.
I was asked yesterday if I would be interested in developing something (a talk, paper, class, or workshop) on emotional “grit”. Not resilience which is more about “bouncebackabbility” and more about accepting some unpleasant feelings rather than avoiding them or suppressing them.
The context was for people who are new to the workplace, where let’s face it, unpleasant feelings often abound.
I am mulling this over, any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.
