I wonder how much of a reward this is.
Our ability to adjust “the background” is perhaps too much control and influence triggering avarice & greed.
Exploitation and modification sound great in theory, yet what we are now seeing is that in practice we have been adjusting without truly appreciating the consequences.
In the time span of Mankind, this malignant “adjustment of the background” is very brief. It is astounding how much we have achieved in such as short space of time, yet also astounding is how much damage we have done to our “space craft”.
Maybe the survival of the species is better served by NOT giving the animals the ability to adjust the environment around them?
Maybe we are an evolutionary mistake?
