📅 Thought for today:

‘If you hear a voice within you say “you cannot paint” then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.’

— Vincent Van Gogh

Yesterday we went to the Immersive Van Gogh exhibition.

It was interesting, the immersive piece was OK, not spectacular (one of the projectors was out of focus).

The VR experience however was superb, magical, and well worth it.

I did learn a lot about Vincent Van Gogh that I didn’t know and learned particularly about his environment and behaviour.

As a therapist this was interesting and his subsequent suicide made me feel sad. How troubled was he?

I did also pick up some quotes and this one really resonated.

I think this has been my approach by and large – I think of things I want to do, and I do them. Some things require practise to become effective. I do not set an expectation in terms of performance – I know I will not be perfect. I give it a go and seek enjoyment from the doing and the process of learning. If the end result (as with pottery) is pleasing, then so much the better.

The two books that have been guiding me to develop my own creativity, “The Artist’s Way” and “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” include similar thoughts to Vincent’s.

Somehow his is the most meaningful to me today.
