📅 Thought for today:

‘Far away is close at hand in images of elsewhere.’

This line is an amalgam of two lines from poems by Robert Graves and Ruth Padel, painted as graffito on a wall in London in 1974.

It was next to a main commuter train route from the West, including Oxford and became an icon.

It was on a wall that was eventually demolished in the name of progress in 1981, when this photograph was taken.

The line has stayed with me and for some reason popped up today.

Maybe prompted by talk in the papers about international travel.

Anyway, I recommend finding John Ryle’s blog City of Words for the full story, if you Google the quote you will find it.

Today I shall be daydreaming and writing in equal measure, images of elsewhere to the fore.
