I can usually spot the people who have had negotiation training.

From the moment you start some form of negotiation, their whole mindset, attitude and language is about how we cooperate.

It is not about how they win.

I think negotiation training in business is significantly undervalued.

Building long term, valuable business relationships requires compromise, communication and cooperation.

If your approach is “I must win” and “I have drawn my lines in the sand and will not cross”, then you may get a deal but not the best one.

In exec coaching, I see this, and the consequences, regularly.

I think negotiation skills will have to be part of my workshop portfolio – who do you admire?
