Thought for today:

‘The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good people (men) to do what they want to be (he wants) done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it. ‘

— Theodore Roosevelt

Another one of those quotes where I like the sentiment but have edited it to tone down the patriarchal bias.

It makes me uncomfortable as it was, but I left the original words in parentheses so you can see.

I have no idea if this is the right way, I just know it is my way.

The meddling part of this quote is what often leads to problems.

It is not just leaders and executives.

Investors sometimes think they know best and after backing a management team can’t resist telling them how to do their job.

That is the point where some entrepreneurs realise their relationship with their investors is not what they thought it would be.

Bringing experience and capital is hugely valuable.

Being a backseat driver as an investor often ends in tears.

Today I am on Day 2 of my training, lots of therapy practice, and mistakes, in a safe space.

It is massively tiring but very rewarding.
