📅 Thought for today:

‘Just as despair can come to one only from other human beings, hope, too, can be given to one only by other human beings.’

— Elie Wiesel

I am grateful that in my short working life as a therapist I have been able to help those in a state of despair to find hope.

All my work starts with finding hope, then belief. There is a moment when you sense that a client has found hope, and sometimes you helped them find it. In that moment I too find more hope.

I have heard “despair” a great deal in recent months – it is all around us in the media.

Whether describing Ukrainian fighters trapped in a steelworks by foreign invaders, the cost of living in the UK, or the rising global temperature, the list seems endless.

If the media tell us the situation is getting desperate, that people are in despair, surely too this must cause further despair?

I understand that news is mostly bad, and I am told that people don’t want to read about what’s good.

Yet…

Don’t we all seek out heart-warming stories? The things that raise a smile, that we say “restore our faith in humanity”?

By talking a bit more hopefully, we might save someone’s life.
