Joe Cannon was a Republican Party leader and speaker of the house. It is ironic that this is his quote when he had such a stranglehold on legislative business that it took a concerted effort to reduce his powers (on St. Patrick’s Day – many of his supporters were Irish).
He was featured on the cover of the first Time magazine.
He lived to 90 years old and died in 1926.
Whilst this quote is about his time in politics, it seems appropriate today. The West seems to be agonising about the threat of nuclear weapons if they intervene “too much” in the Ukraine invasion (a war by any other name).
The skunk has the ultimate weapon – fear. Work out what he fears and you’ll start to turn the tide.
