📅 Thought for today:
‘A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.’
— Oscar Wilde

When I was a young lad at school, daydreaming was a crime. In fact, being “a bit of a dreamer” was a put down – you were not really going to get very far because you weren’t focussed, and you didn’t “apply yourself”.
I was often accused of being a dreamer. My school reports all said, “you do better” and “not realising his potential”. I was consistently in the top 10% in my year.
It was just that these things never mattered to me. In many ways, they still don’t.
I understand that “serious business people” don’t sit and daydream, and I wonder “Why not?”
Where would we be without our dreamers? Some people know how to exploit an innovation for maximum profit – for their shareholders mostly.
Yet the people to celebrate must surely be the dreamers of impossible things who work out ways to make them happen.
My teachers disparaging remarks served only to galvanise me to daydream more, to allow a creative element to run through my work, and to choose my path my way, not their way.
Cue Frank Sinatra.
