📅 Thought for today:
‘Be curious, not judgemental.’
— Ted Lasso

There is a marvellous scene in season 1, episode 8 of Ted Lasso.
If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it.
If you are being judgemental about Ted Lasso, be curious.
The episode title is Diamond Dogs – after the Bowie album and song, which I remember being released.
Anyway, Ted attributes this quote, his personal motto, to Walt Whitman.
However, this is not a Walt Whitman quote – it is unattributed. If you want more see Snopes.
The internet is full of misattributed quotes (often to Mark Twain, Walt Whitman or Zig Ziglar).
It matters not a jot as Billy Connolly would say – it is a marvellous quote to live by.
I think it also sums up coaching, counselling and psychotherapy.
When we let go of our judgement and leave room for curiosity, we understand people better and often make them feel better too.
My lack of judgement extends to my wife. Today we discussed Omicron and risk – and that in her day-to-day work she is exposed to the general public where I have very little contact with the outside world. I work with clients around the world from my home office. This led to her describing herself as, “a festering cauldron of bacteria”.
Aside from thinking that “The Festering Cauldron” would be a good name for a pub – or a secret society of anti-vaxxers – it also made me curious. And not a bit judgemental.
