Thought for today:
โThis country-right-or-wrong business is getting a little out-of-date. History is moving pretty quickly these days and the heroes and villains keep on changing parts.โ
— Ian Fleming (Casino Royale, 1953)

I am off to see the latest James Bond film today, No Time to Die.
The first Bond film I saw at the cinema was Diamonds are Forever in 1971, in the days when cinemas let any paying customer in, even a 12-year-old.
I read the sourcebooks in the mid-70s having picked up original film tie-in paperbacks as a job lot at a jumble sale, and I still have them today. I think they are good to read, of their time and not complex literature.
The question of countries being right (or wrong) came up as I read about how much control Russia has over our gas supplies. The reporting I read made Russia the villain, for throttling gas supplies to exert influence. Like we (UK & US) wouldn’t do the same!
A different spin is that Russia is keeping our lights on and we should be grateful. They have the gas, we need it. As do a great many other countries.
If you don’t buy climate change (really?) then independence of fossil fuels is a good reason to switch power sources to nuclear and green.
Countries need other countries to be villains so that they don’t have to admit that they are a villain to someone too.
