I enjoy working with managers, leaders and entrepreneurs.
There is one thing that seems to stand out to me, and that is how newer, younger, leaders understand the power of empathy.
Often, not always, the conversations that go along the lines of, “If you give employees an inch, they will take a mile” involve more mature “leaders”.
These are people who do not trust their employees and “keep them in line” with rules and a bossy attitude.
They are also people who are not respected, liked or trusted by their employees – who act accordingly.
Saying that your employees will abuse working from home reveals a deep-seated lack of trust.
No doubt the man who made this statement that made the national newspaper will so “I’m experienced manager, I know I’m right.”
I wonder what his employees say? I wonder if he cares?
