📅 Thought for today:

‘Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare.’

Patrick Lencioni wrote “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team”.

It is a book I refer to often. I have also heard learned professors tell me it is not very useful because it doesn’t tell you what to do – whilst their own books tell you what to do but not how, or vice versa.

Working with teams of people (and more often aligned groups rather than teams), I am often struck by their lack of mutual trust.

They are thrown together in a company, or public sector body, and expected to work effectively together.

Lencioni says that lack of trust is the first of the five dysfunctions.

I really believe, and trust requires honesty and psychological safety.

These things are so rare that I have an entire business line based on helping teams develop them.
