Epicurus was a Greek philosopher who died about 2,300 years ago who found Epicureanism, a school of philosophy which challenged Platonism and Stoicism. Not all his teachings stand the test of time. Epicurus was a hedonism (the pursuit of simple pleasures) and hence our current word epicure comes from his name, although only with respect to food.
