📅 Thought for today:
‘I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, ‘Where’s the self-help section?’ She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.’

The “self-improvement” market in the USA is around $11 billion of which audiobooks account for $600m.
Every year something new, a craze, a fad, or simply new terminology emerges, and someone somewhere gets rich.
In fact, books on how to get rich are consistent best-sellers – you can’t help but smile at that, can you?
I idly speculate about how many of the self-improvement books are actually read.
They tend to “speak to us” – we read them and think that feels right, sounds true – it resonates.
Then we buy the next book.
I buy quite a lot of them second-hand on eBay or Abebooks, because my clients read them. It helps if I understand the terminology.
In the newspaper today I read an article on doing your own therapy. It was a mix of therapeutic language, coaching and self-help style language.
I have been thinking about starting a newsletter on LinkedIn for a while, and I think this is going to be my theme – how to help yourself.
By the way, 12 of the top 17 motivational speakers in the USA are over 60. Just saying.
