I have been on a long slow journey going from A to B.

In A, I was able to make a living, I was competent and confident in my work, and I didn’t love it.

In B, I am also able to make a living, I am also competent and confident in the work I do, and I love it.

The difference between them is I have stopped focussing on the “making a living” part.

It is not that I can afford to not be working, it is that I trust that if I do the right things for other people, the living will come “anyway”.

And if it doesn’t?

Well, I’ve been there, and I know what that looks like, I wouldn’t seek it out, and I also won’t let the fear determine what I do.

There is no contradiction between giving and being paid.

The moment the personal contribution becomes disconnected, and the driver becomes personal gratification (“getting”) then something changes.

My reflection today is simply that I am happy in my work, I am happy to get paid for what I do, and I am also happy to give to others in all manner of small yet meaningful ways without feeling the need to tell everyone.

PS Thanks for the gallery tips from yesterday, I now have a list of 51. All I have to do now is work out how to do them all!
