๐ Thought for today:
โMost people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility.โ

There is a strange irony that boomers like me were part of a freedom movement and yet where we as a society have ended up is with the most conformist, restrictive and polarised society thanks to social media, low tolerance for discomfort and instant outrage.
The very restrictions that boomers “fought” against, to be allowed to “tune in and drop out”, have become more restrictive and the norm.
The illusion of freedom of choice and freedom of speech has actually resulted in an unquestioning herd mentality that restricts thought and reduces the freedom to “be” as you want to be.
I often wonder what my grandmother would have made of modern society. I think she would have embraced it and so long as she was left alone to pursue her country practices (mostly folk wisdom and using the flora around her for remedies and nutrition) then I suspect she would have let the world get on with itself.
Until of course, someone took offence, or complained to “the authorities” or otherwise did not let things be because they were “wrong”.
Then, a social media storm would whip feelings up to a frenzy and a sacrifice would be made online.
Somehow this is all very reminiscent of a scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
