📅 Thought for today:
‘We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology.’
— Carl Sagan

I watched the film “Don’t Look Up” last night, a biting satire on modern times. I found it funny and thought-provoking in roughly equal measure.
At some point, there was a reference to Carl Sagan, a man ahead of his time in some ways, and with a very distinctive way of speaking – once heard never forgotten.
I well remember the original Cosmos series, now a little dated yet still a fascinating journey.
This chain of thought made me find a Sagan quote for today, one which reflected our times, and I thought this was very appropriate.
It also ties in nicely with the film. We live in a time when facts are interpreted to suit the reader, opinions are formed and conversations turn to debates and then arguments because science is as much about the process as it is about data or anything else.
The impact of social media on our ability to discern “truth” and our relationships, our tolerance and our social structures is plain to see. Things are changing whether we like it or not.
