I look to sit and watch people in busy spaces.
I have had very little opportunity to do this in person for the past 17 months.
I have barely left the house, even after lockdown restrictions eased in July.
Yet it is still possible to people watch.
Television is a good place to start, especially documentaries and the news.
Then there are webcams in public spaces, where people are going about their lives.
I think we can know so little about other people we cannot talk to that we “fill in the gaps” and create stories.
For me this is useful in my writing, the imagined actions and motivations of random strangers help me shape people into characters.
The stories we tell about other people also tell us something about ourselves.
