Thought for today:

‘Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.’

— Charlie Mingus

Charlie Mingus was one of the greatest jazz musicians ever.

And a master of improvisation.

His style required musicians to listen and respond within a common framework.

Its simplicity is deceptive, the skills required are exceptional.

Why this quote today?

Because I am attempting to hold back a tide of other’s complications to create something simple and effective.

My experience is that managers over-complicate, they seem unable to simplify.

As if complication justifies their existence.

It doesn’t – they are brakes not accelerators on a creative process.

I have no idea how I would teach this, but I know what it feels like!
