Thought for today:
‘Christmas is a piece of one’s home that one carries in one’s heart.’
— Freya Stark

Before you go looking in Wikipedia for the cast of Game of Thrones…
Freya Stark was a remarkable woman.
She was an explorer and travel writer and lived to 100.
She explored the Arabian desert and Iran’s western wilderness – the first westerner to do so.
This is her comment on travel and tourism:
“One can only really travel if one lets oneself go and takes what every place brings without trying to turn it into a healthy private pattern of one’s own and I suppose that is the difference between travel and tourism.”
I am full of admiration for her drive, determination and resilience.
I recommend reading a little about her, or her biography, “Passionate Nomad: The Life of Freya Stark”.
Given the stare of the UK today, and severe travel restrictions, I thought it worth reminding myself (with this quote) that the meaning of Christmas to me is family and shared experience, and we can still achieve that whether colocated or not.
Continuing on from yesterday…
Day 3. Because of all you have experienced this year, can you think of one skill or ability you have improved or gained in 2020?
If you can and feel so minded, share here.
