Thought for today:

‘I don’t aspire to be like other drivers – I aspire to be unique in my own way.’

— Lewis Hamilton

“Yes! Get in Lewis.”

So said Peter ‘Bono’ Bonnington.

My thoughts today are with Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton, seven times world Formula One champion.

A great British sportsman, who demonstrated his mettle yesterday at a very wet Turkish Grand Prix.

Even if F1 is “not your thing”, Lewis deserves recognition for his achievements.

And his ethical and moral stance against racism and human rights abuse.

I first saw Lewis race in GP2 (the one below Formula One) at Silverstone in 2006.

He completed a three-abreast overtake on Hanger Straight, passing two cars in one move.

He passed two other rivals at Becketts, where it is rare to pass anyone.

He moved up to Formula One the next year.

I still have a signed photo from his rookie year where he missed out on winning by one point.

He dedicated his win yesterday “… to all the kids out there who dream the impossible.”

Lewis dreamed the impossible dream and made it his reality.

Get in Lewis.
