Thought for today:
‘There is something both gratifying and humiliating in watching a man who has taken you for a routinely silly woman begin to take you seriously.’
— A S Byatt

This quote came to mind after reading about The Queen’s Gambit, a show on Netflix.
I’m looking forward to watching, not least because I was on the school chess team as a teenager.
But also because there is the line about “I didn’t expect a woman to play chess”.
Why not?
Time and again I come across women who are treated as somehow inferior by men in the workplace and at home.
Caitlin Moran in The Times today said that one test for feminism is to think of a man in a similar situation.
Would this quote be so relevant if the roles were reversed?
Would it even be credible?
