Thought for today:
‘Psychotherapy is a private, confidential conversation that has nothing to do with illness, medicine, or healing.’

That was World Mental Health Day (yesterday).
My social feeds are now full of something else.
The conversation has moved on, just like that.
Did anything change?
For me, I read many well-meaning statements that were incorrect.
So I feel the need to say that this is a difficult YEAR for everyone.
And to dispel a few myths.
Psychotherapy and counselling are functionally the same.
Psychotherapy is not about fixing, illness, medicalisation, or broken people.
Our emotions are not failings.
Even on my US-based coaching course I have been told “psychotherapy is all about fixing broken people”.
This is one of those myths that needs to be laid to rest. I’ll start.
